On Nov. 7, U.S. carrier Sprint had rolled out its first software update for the Galaxy Note 2, which brought the much-touted Multi-Window View feature users' way. Now, SamMobile has made available a leaked firmware (version I9300XXELK4) of the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean available for the Galaxy S3 to download and install.
"We of SamMobile would like to give you the latest I9300XXELK4 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean test firmware for the Galaxy S III. Big Thanks to forum member Saturn from XDA-Developers who made this possible by giving us the dump files from his device," reported Web site SamMobile.
The leaked firmware for the Galaxy S3 is still in the testing phase and is expected to be pushed out by Samsung sometime in December. The build date of the firmware is Nov. 8.
One of the main draws of this software update is that it will bring the Mult-Window View feature, which adds split-screen functionality and lets users multi-task by letting them run two applications on the same screen simultaneously. A feature that is available in the Galaxy Note 2.
"Samsung has added a ton of new feature in their Android 4.1.2 update and we wanted to give Samsung's hardcore fans a sneak preview of what Samsung is up to in their dev center," notes SamMobile.
According to SamMobile, some of the features of the leaked firmware are as follows:
The firmware can be downloaded from I9300XXELK4_I9300OJKELK5_ILO.zip, and SamMobile gives interested users the flashing instructions. Even though the SamMobile asserts that they have "FULLY TESTED this firmware and this firmware works perfectly as any other official firmware," it is advisable that users do not install unofficial software on their devices. If you were brave enough to flash this Jelly Bean version to your Galaxy S3, did it work for you?
