China-based Oppo has something up its sleeve that will strike a chord with all narcissists and those who love clicking self-portraits. The company is slated to release the Ulike 2 smartphone, which touts a whopping 5-megapixel front-facing camera, in December this year.
While competing smartphone makers have been busy beefing up the hardware, Oppo has decided to take a different route altogether and upgrade an often neglected feature. Most of the current crop of smartphones sport a front-facing snapper that is at best 2.1 megapixels. The high resolution optics on Ulike 2's secondary camera is bound to make consumers sit up and take notice.
The Ulike 2 is a stylish smartphone, which is primarily targeted at women. The front-facing camera's preview mode and the Ulike 2's 4.5-inch touchscreen would easily double up as a mirror for potential women buyers, and they can use it for a quick make-up fix on the go. The staggering 5 megapixels of the secondary camera would make the images crisp and good enough to focus on the minutest of details.
What's more, Oppo claims that the Ulike 2's front-facing camera is ideal for taking self-portraits. The camera app packs in several different effects that can be applied in real time to the viewfinder, including dermabrasion, whitening, face-lift, and eye enhancement. These effects will help enhance a self-portrait and make them look perfect. Additionally, Oppo also asserts that its new camera pp is way faster than third-party offerings which have filters.
The Ulike 2 sports a 4.5-inch LCD screen with 960 x 540 pixels resolution. It measures 5.0 x 2.51 x 0.35 inches and has small screen bezels (0.09 inch), which makes one-held operation quite easy.
It has 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and runs on Android 4.0 ICS. The smartphone also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 support and a 2020mAh battery fuels the device.
The elegant looking phone is available in white and shows off the Ulike 2's "gapless" display. No information regarding the Ulike 2's processor is currently available. The smartphone is expected to release in the Chinese market on Dec. 19; however, the pricing of the Ulike 2 remains a mystery.
