Smartphone market leader Samsung is trying every trick in the book to stay ahead in the highly-competitive consumer market. The Korean company has taken the wraps off its new dual-screen flip phone - the Samsung W2013 - at a charity concert.
What's more, after getting celebrities like pop singer PSY and basketball player Lebron James to promote its Galaxy Note 2, the Korean company now has actor Jackie Chan endorsing the SCH-W2013.
In 2012 and 2011, the company launched the Samsung W899 and the Samsung W999, respectively, both of which were dual-screen flip phones. However, owing to the steep pricing the niche devices did not meet with much success in the consumer market.
The latest SCH-W2013 dual-screen flip phone, like the earlierW999, sports dual-screens that are 3.7-inches (800 x 480 pixels resolution) and have WVGA resolutions. Under the hood, the device packs in a 1.4GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.
The device measures 4.64 x 2.36 x 0.66 inches and weighs 6.88oz. The dual-screen flip phone also has 16GB of on-board storage, with the option to expand to an additional 64GB, courtesy the microSD card slot.
The device also features an 8-megapixel rear-facing HD camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing snapper. The Samsung W2013 will come pre-loaded with the older Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (with TouchWix) operating system, which is a dampener. A 1850mAh battery will fuel the device.
However, like most flagship devices on carrier China Telecom (where the phone is headed), the W2013 will also have dual-SIM support (CDMA2000 800/1900Mhz and GSM 900/1800/1900Mhz).
Per reports, the quirky device is expected to cost between 18,000 Yuan ($2,900) and 20,000 Yuan ($3,210).
