Adblock Plus For Android: App Now Available On The Google Play Store

Vamien McKalin

Android users will be thrilled to learn that one of the best applications on the PC for various Web browsers - Adblock Plus - is finally available in the Google Play Store.

Adblock Plus is available for free in the Google Play Store, and this powerful application is aiming to block every advertisement that shows up on your beloved Android smartphone. According to the app's description, Adblock Plus is able to block mobile ads, video advertising, banners, push notifications, display advertising, HTML5 advertising, and much more.

The app is not all butter and roses, there are a few limitations and these are as follows:

  •  Rooted: Blocks ads over Wi-Fi and 3G
  •  Non-rooted with Android 3.1 or later: Blocks ads over Wi-Fi
  •  Non-rooted with Android 3.0 or earlier: Some manual configuration is required.

These limitations depend on the version of Android the user is running and whether the device is rooted or not.

This is great stuff right here, since advertisements on smartphones always posed a problem for users due to the size of the display. However, Adblock Plus could cause ruckus for app developers who freely distribute their apps with hopes to make some cash via advertisement.

The developers of Adblock Plus may have just gone past their limit when they chose to block advertisement in apps, the risk it could potentially pose to developers backend could cause for its removal from the Google Play Store.

At the end of the day, the only ones who will not be happy about Adblock Plus's arrival are advertisers.
