Rubber Tacos For iOS – The Mexican Way (Review)

Prarthito Maity

How many times has the popular pop culture associated itself with the ever wonderful Mexican culture? The Rubber Tacos game from Zynga and Sava Transmedia is no different, with plenty of physics-heavy puzzle and similar mechanics coming into the gameplay.

To be precise, Rubber Tacos for iOS has everything to do with Mexican luchadores and a lot of your favorite Mexican dishes. Rubber Tacos is one-of-a-kind bouncy, physics-heavy puzzle game. The gamer's aim here is to help the Taco family recover their stolen peppers by the crazy Pinata over 120 colorful and addictive levels.

As far as the background story goes, Rubber Tacos starts when a family of Luchadores is having a picnic and a Pinata dog zooms by and steals all their peppers and runs off. The incident forces the family to chase the Pinata dog, picking up peppers dropped along the way.

The goal here is to reach the target by bouncing a certain masked wrestler off a series of obstacles. The developers made the objects as fun-filled as possible in the form of hamburgers, giant fishes, and of course, jalapenos.

Rubber Tacos offers as many as 120 levels with four exciting chapters, and five unique characters. The option to access extreme power-ups, alongside the option to create and share levels, challenging friends, and accessing leaderboards is also available.

The game also has a semi-random nature of launching the characters to the bottom, alongside the special abilities each member of this fighting family possesses. For example, per a 148apps report, “by holding down before releasing a shot, the father can see just how the shot will play out and adjust accordingly. Meanwhile, the mother can project a magnetic field around herself and zap to the goal even if the initial shot was a little off. These fun little powers nicely spice up the fun little puzzles but it’s all ultimately something to be breezed through without much thought or effort.”

However, there is a downside as Rubber Tacos isn’t really an original game. If the concept of the game is taken into account, it could be easily compared to ZeptoLab’s Cut the Rope, yet another physics puzzle game in which users swing a little monster across the screen collecting candy.

The best thing about the game is that it’s free and uses a little less that 30MB of space. It is also compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (third generation), iPod touch (fourth generation), iPod touch (fifth generation), and iPad. It also requires iOS 4.3 or later.
