The Nokia Lumia 920T has been officially announced and is expected to make its debut on China Mobile by the end of 2012. Plenty of leaked information surrounding the smartphone popped up prior to the Lumia 920T's official announcement, which pegged the 920T to be a better phone than the original Lumia 920.
Both the Nokia Lumia 920T and Lumia 920 are similar in every way except for the GPU. The Lumia 920T has a faster Adreno 320 GPU, while the Lumia 920 packs the Adreno 225. The device is exclusive to China Mobile and its 700 million mobile subscribers, which puts Nokia and Windows Phone 8 is a great position to boost sales in China. If the Lumia 920T is able to strike a chord in the Chinese market, Nokia could be back in the driver's seat faster than expected.
"We are delighted to partner with China Mobile, the world's largest operator, to introduce China's first Lumia based on Windows Phone 8. People around the world are responding positively to the new Lumia devices, and we're confident that the enthusiasm will extend to China with the Lumia 920T," said Stephen Elop, President and CEO of Nokia.
Along with launching the Lumia 920T on China Mobile, Nokia will be partnering with Air China in an effort to let consumers enjoy this so-called wireless charging feature that is found in the device. Wireless charging stations will only be available in Beijing Airport VIP lounges, so not everyone will be able to make use of this even if they own a Lumia 920T. However, it's still a positive move by Nokia to raise awareness of wireless charging in the Lumia 920T, even if it is just a gimmick.
China has one of the largest amount of smartphone users, the country is conisdered as one of the key battlegrounds in the smartphone wars. While Android is doing fairly well in China, the same can't be said for the iPhone. Apple is struggling to gain any meaniful traction in the market, which means Nokia and Microsoft have a huge open window to strike before Apple comes up with a successful strategy.
The Nokia Lumia 920T will retail for RMB 4599 (approximately $738) without contract and will be available for order by 2012 end. The Lumia 920T will be available in four colors: yellow, red, black, and white.
