True to its word, Taiwan-based ASUS has released the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software update for its PadFone 2. Per reports, the over-the-air (OTA) update is currently rolling out and is now available for download.
The PadFone 2, a follow up to the PadFone, was launched earlier in October this year and came pre-loaded with the older Android 4.0 Ice Cream sandwich. However, at the time, ASUS had let on that the smartphone-in-a-tablet hybrid device would receive the Android 4.1 upgrade soon. Now, a FoneArena report confirms that the update has indeed been pushed out.
"We have exclusive news first on FoneArena that the PadFone 2 has indeed got the update to Android 4.1 JellyBean as promised. The update is rolling out right now via an OTA update," reported FoneArena.
The software update has the build number "JRO03L 10.4.5.33-0." FoneArena also posted some screenshots of the update which show that their PadFone 2 is now running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to validate their assertions.
The update brings several new features like Google Now, Voice Search, Face Unlock, etc. to the 4.7-inch PadFone 2. However, the OS resembles the older ICS as ASUS has retained its custom skin. Apparently, the UI is so similar that it is difficult to discern if the device is running on ICS or Jelly Bean.
The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is now available OTA; however, it takes close to 15-30 minutes to complete and, therefore, users need to be patient whilst installing. Ensure that your device is fully charged before beginning the upgrade.
