The latest survey conducted by Piper Jaffray shows that more than half of U.S. smartphone customers want to buy Apple's sixth-generation smartphone, the iPhone 5.
The survey conducted on more than 800 U.S. consumers those who are planning to buy a smartphone in the next three months say they will buy Apple's new iPhone 5.
"We believe this is a positive that demonstrates the majority of U.S. consumers want an iPhone 5 even following the launch craze, and despite the Maps issues that have been widely noted," said Gene Munster an analyst at Piper Jaffray.
The survey shows that 53.3 percent of U.S. consumers are estimated to buy an iPhone 5 in the near future. The percentage of customers who want to buy the iPhone 5 in the near future has increased from 47.7 percent from pre-release of the smartphone. However, the figure has slightly dropped down from 54.9 percent from October just after the release of iPhone 5.
Unsurprisingly, Google's Android platform-based smartphones occupied the second position with 35.5 percent. This percentage has marginally increased from 35.2 percent from just after iPhone 5 was released, but has fallen down slightly from September when 39 percent of U.S customers wanted Android-powered snartphones.
Consumers shopping for Windows-powered smartphones have dropped from 8.7 percent in September to 5.2 percent in October, before increasing fractionally to 6.8 in December this year.
The percentage of customers who are planning to buy a BlackBerry smartphone has been consistent at 4.7 percent in September and October and increasing slightly to 4.9 percent in December.
The iPhone 5 is facing stiff competition from rivals but the smartphone is still selling like hot cakes. Apple has also improved on shipping time for the iPhone which may increase the demand of the iPhone 5 even further.
If you are looking for a smartphone, do you have the latest iPhone 5 at the top of your holiday shopping list?
