Canadian smartphone maker Research in Motion (RIM) is gearing up to unleash its new BlackBerry 10 operating system, as well as two new BlackBerry 10 devices on Jan. 30, 2013.
Rumors and leaked marketing material from the company have suggested that the first of the two BlackBerry 10 devices will be called BlackBerry Z10. The device was initially codenamed "London" and is a part of RIM's all-touch L-Series of smartphones.
The new naming convention is a marked shift from RIM's previous strategies where it numbered devices, such as 9900 and 9100. RIM is yet to officially confirm the BlackBerry Z10 name for the device, but the change would (in all likelihood) be in keeping with the company's new business strategies for 2013, in a bid to breathe a fresh lease of life into the fading ecosystem.
Not too many details are known about the all-touch BlackBerry Z10 at this juncture, and whatever information is available has been gleaned through rumors and leaks. Rumors indicate that the BlackBerry Z10 will have a 4.2-inch display with 1280 x 768 pixels resolution and 356 ppi. A 1.5 GHz dual-core processor will likely power the LTE-enabled smartphone. The BlackBerry Z10 will also pack in an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera that shoots 1080p videos, a 2-megapixel front0facing camera, 16GB of internal storage, an 1800mAh removable battery, 2GB of RAM, and BB10 OS.
A report from bbin claims that the BlackBerry Z10 will have a dual HD camera as well. The smartphone will also offer Wi-Fi, GPS, HDMI, and NFC support.
With RIM's CMO Frank Boulben asserting that over 70,000 apps will be available at launch, it seems that the BlackBerry Z10 could well revive the dwindling fortunes of the company.
The price point for the BlackBerry Z10 is currently not known and the device will be available in two colors: black and white.
