Samsung has made a huge profit with previously released smartphones like Galaxy S3 and Note 2, and while the company is still reaping fruit from the devices' popularity, rumors about new Galaxy S4 have already started making rounds on the web.
Now, per new reports, a confirmed model number for the next flagship Samsung smartphone, the GT-I9500, has arrived with reports adding that it will run on either Android or an entirely different operating system called TIZEN.
TIZEN is an operating system for multiple device categories including smartphones, tablets, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) devices, smart TVs, and more. It is an open source operating system that resides within the Linux Foundation, with TSG (Intel and Samsung) being the primary decision-making body.
TIZEN provides a flexible environment for application developers, based on jQuery and jQuery Mobile. The software development kit (SDK) allows developers to use HTML5 and related web technologies to write applications that run across multiple device segments.
SamMobile was the first to release the report of the new device being confirmed with the online publication stating that the GT-I9500 could very well be the Galaxy S4 as the number '4' is apparently unlucky in South Korea, and Samsung would skip I9400 in favor of I9500 (GT-I9505 for the LTE version). While the Galaxy S3's model number was GT-I9300, it seems that Samsung hasn't used the number 4 in any of its high-end devices.
"SamMobile just received the first model numbers of Samsung's new high-end device. The Samsung GT-I9500 and GT-I9505 (probably LTE version). We know that Samsung's first TIZEN developer device is using GT-I9500 as its model number which could mean TIZEN is close to come, or, other possibility is that Samsung changed the model number of the next-generation Galaxy S device," the Sam Mobile report stated.
The site also mentions that it's strange that Samsung is still making two versions of this device, as it was expected that Samsung's next flagship would be a global device, similar to the iPhone 5.
This is just a rumor but we can confirm Samsung has started doing first software tests of its new flagship model of TIZEN or Android. GT-I9500 and GT-I9505," the report concluded.
