Samsung has gone one step ahead with its cross-platform messaging service, ChatON, as it unveiled the developed version of the messenger. Samsung released ChatON 2.0 with more features and multi-device syncing.
Samsung, which had turned the text messaging system outdated with the launch of the cross-platform messaging service, will try to take on the rival services like WhatsApp and SnapChat with the updated messenger.
"ChatON has vastly simplified mobile messaging for millions of users around the world, enabling them to enjoy easier and richer interactivity with whoever they want, in whatever format they want. ChatON 2.0 now takes this one step further, enabling users to access the service from multiple devices for a true multi-screen user experience," Samsung Tomorrow quoted president and head of Media Solution Center at Samsung Electronics, Wonpyo Hong, as saying.
ChatON 2.0 gives more features to the virtual storage space, Trunk, where users are able to share photos and videos with their friends. Now, in the developed version, users can leave comments on the contents shared from the Trunk.
The multi-device syncing gives users option to use ChatON with up to five devices once they log in to ChatON with their Samsung Account. On the devices connected to a Samsung account, they can receive the same ChatON messages simultaneously. When they change their device, it is possible to use the existing buddy list and the chat list by logging in to ChatON with the same Samsung Account.
The new version also updates security features so the profile identification and data security becomes easier.
In the version 2.0, if a user is not in your buddy list and the nationalities are also different then a flag icon will appear next to the profile image of the user. Unauthenticated users will be marked with a different icon at the same place. These icons will basically work as security warnings.
Another update in the security features lets users decide who they want to show their profile image to. Users can choose whether to show their profile image only to their buddies. Profile images were originally open to users 'who knows my phone number', but now it is optional.
The same thing applies to the phone number and the Samsung Account. If the users wish to make the information public, he/she can select the 'open the information to all' options.
The ChatON messenger is available in 200 countries in more than 60 languages.
