Swackett Weather App Now Available For Android Devices

Most of the current crop of weather apps that are available for download are quite staid and give information about the weather without any frills in a cut and dry manner. So, those who are looking for a weather app with a lot more panache, which is both quirky and interactive, have their answer in Swackett.

The Swackett weather app has been available for iOS devices for quite some time and has now finally made the transition to Android as well. Swackett takes an unconventional and fun approach to weather as it gives out the information by dressing up "peeps" or on-screen characters, who are symbolic representations of people, in weather appropriate attire to give users an idea of the conditions.

"swackett is a fun new way to look at the weather. We convert complex weather data to easily-understood, visual weather reports designed for people of every age. Our unique approach is to combine raw weather data (current conditions, radar, and detailed forecasts) with thoughtfully crafted people symbols (called "peeps") who always appear appropriately dressed for the weather," notes the app description.

So if it is raining, your "peep" will be donning a raincoat for instance, or a thick jacket and boots if it snowing. The app also has special edition "guest characters" like Captain Jack Sparrow who makes an appearance as well.

The Swackett weather app is "a fun, fresh and truly useful weather report experience for people of any age" but it also packs in traditional forecasts, radar imagery, and warnings which are available under hidden menus.

Unfortunately, the app is far from perfect in its current form. The UI isn't exactly easy to pick up right away, with quite a few hidden menus. There is also an annoying ad present at all times on the top of the screen. The iOS version allows you to pay $0.99 to remove it, but the Android version has yet to provide this option.

Other areas where the app is lacking include no notification bar alerts and no widgets. At this point, it is more of a complimentary app for those with other existing weather programs. Hopefully Swackett will improve with future versions.

The weather app gives information surrounding current weather, visual forecasts for the current day and tomorrow, hourly forecasts for the next 24 hours, daily forecasts for the next five days, smart watches and warnings, and full-motion radar images (local, regional, state, and national) with rain, ice, and snow mapping.

The app also gives comprehensive weather details like humidity, wind speed and directions, sunrise and sunset, temperature and "real feel" temperature, precipitation amounts (for ice, rain, and snow), and percent probability of precipitation.
