The HTC HD2 is appearing to be a phone that will live on forever, despite being three years old with dated hardware. The handset is known to boot several different operating systems and now it ups the ante by firing up Windows RT.
HTC first dropped the HD2 on consumers back in 2009 with Windows Phone 6.5 at the helm. Since then, many developers found ways to port Android, Linux, Windows, and other operating systems onto the handset without much difficulty. Fast forward to the end of 2012 and a developer, who goes by the name Cotulla, has managed to get Windows RT running on the HD2, an impressive feat to say the least.
Cotulla was the first to grace the HTC HD2 with Windows Phone 7, so it comes as no surprise that he managed to get Windows RT taking advantage of the device's dated hardware. It is not yet known how well Windows RT performs on the handset; however, we won't be suprised if it did work well, since Windows RT is a stripped-down version of Windows 8 meant to run on low-powered processors from ARM.
Seeing that it is possible to run Windows RT on a mobile phone, it isn't too farfetched to assume that Microsoft will one day release a handset that is capable of running Windows RT fully without any problems. Who knows, Microsoft could just be planning to remove the desktop interface from Windows RT in the future and make it available on mobile devices since Windows Phone 8 and Windows RT are so similar.
