Now, this is one news that's bound to get Samsung Galaxy fans in a tizzy - rumor mills are suggesting that the next iteration of Samsung's best-selling Galaxy S3 smartphone - Galaxy S4 - will launch in April 2013 with the S-Pen stylus in tow.
If the conjecture bears fruition, then the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be the first in the line-up to feature the S-Pen, putting it in the same league as the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones from the Korean company.
Korean Web site Enuri reported the news and cited a Samsung official as the source, giving some credence to the speculation.
"The Samsung Galaxy S IV might be the first handset in the series to launch with an S Pen and the accompanying functionality as Samsung is allegedly looking to unite its Note series with the flagship Galaxy S IV. This would be a huge change for Samsung and interestingly enough is allegedly confirmed by a quote from a Samsung official," reported PhoneArena.
Additionally, it is believed that Samsung will deploy a quad-core Exynos 5440 chip, that has been manufactured using 28nm high-K metal gate technology, in the Galaxy S4. The smartphone will likely run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Moreover, indications that the Galaxy S4 will sport a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED display are gaining more traction as the alleged launch date nears. Given that most of the smartphones slated for a 2013 release are featuring similar specs, the Galaxy S4 taking the same route seems like a distinct possibility.
Additionally, rumors also point to the upcoming Galaxy S4 sporting a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with auto focus and a thicker 0.36 inch body, putting it nearly at par with the 0.38 inch thickness of the Galaxy Note 2 and bettering the 8-megapixel primary camera.
With several companies like Sony, LG, and Lenovo set to release1080p devices that pack similar camera functionalities, Samsung could have an edge over its rivals, if it take the S Pen route for the Galaxy S4.
Come 2013, it will be interesting to see how the smartphone market shapes up and if market leader Samsung can retain its numero uno status. It remains to be seen if the Galaxy S4 will surpass its predecessor's sales success and be a force to be reckoned with if and when it releases in April 2013.
