People who have been facing issues with Nexus 7 after installing Android 4.2, and are not happy with the performance of Ubuntu, here is another option. The webOS community has ported Open webOS for Google's popular Nexus 7 tablet.
Open webOS developer Simon 'Morphis' Busch made the port successful. The port, which is still in its alpha stage, was demonstrated in a recently uploaded YouTube video.
Even though Hewlett-Packard dismissed the webOS project last year, people who believe in the webOS mobile operating system have been continuing on through the Open webOS project.
Earlier this year the OS was ported to the Galaxy Nexus and now the webOS Ports team has made it available on the popular Nexus 7 tablet.
The most important point with the Open webOS running on the seven-inch-tablet is that it is untethered. Means, to run it again and again, you don't have to connect your Nexus 7 with computer every time.
According to Webos Nation, the port didn't take much of efforts as Busch was able to make it in a week's time during his winter break from college.
In the video, the port appears to be little feature-incomplete at this time. But overall the main features work smoothly. Running on Open webOS, the Nexus 7 can connect to Wi-Fi and load pages in the browser.
People, who had been using Android 4.2 or 4.1 in their ASUS Google Nexus 7, were quite disappointed with the tablet developing frequent issues.
Nexus 7 users started facing problems related to performance, Google Talk, and battery drain, after they upgraded to Android 4.2.
As the biggest embarrassment, Google, in Android 4.2, had included only 11 months for the year 2012 in the People app. The app comes as a default application with Android.
The Internet giant later realized the fault and swiftly the bug saying, "We discovered a bug in the Android 4.2 update, which makes it impossible to enter December events in optional fields of the People app (this bug did not affect Calendar). Rest assured, this will be fixed soon so that those of you with December birthdays and anniversaries won't be forgotten by your friends and family," the company wrote in a post.
