Samsung's elusive WP8 smartphone, the ATIV Odyssey, is set to make an appearance at the 2013 International CES (or CES 2013) if recent reports are anything to go by. Per reports, specifications for the Verizon ATIV Odyssey have surfaced online, and indicate that the smartphone will be an entry-level and not a premium handset.
Earlier in October 2012, Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer spilled the beans that ATIV Odyssey will be coming to U.S. carrier Verizon in December. What's more, leaked images of the ATIV Odyssey also popped up, fueling speculations that the launch date was nearing.
However, according to a WPCentral report, the ATIV Odyssey is set to make its much-awaited debut at the CES 2013. The site also managed to lay its hands on an internal data sheet, which details the smartphone's features and specs.
"Although Verizon and Samsung were not able to release the Odyssey on the network for December as had been expected, we're quite confident we'll finally see the device in the coming weeks, including a sneak peek at CES next week. The specifications for the device have now come to our attention via an internal data sheet for Verizon," stated the WPCentral report.
Per the data sheet, the LTE-enabled ATIV Odyssey will be a global ready smartphone and sport a 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen. The smartphone will measure 4.82 x 2.51 x 0.43 inches and weigh 4.41 ounces. A 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor will power the device.
The ATIV Odyssey will also pack in a removable 2100mAh battery, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of on-board storage along with the option to expand the memory further via a microSD card. The smartphone will also feature a 5-megapixel primary camera that can shoot 1080p videos, whereas the secondary camera will be 1.2 megapixels (720p). The ATIV Odyssey will support NFC but will not have wireless charging.
The Samsung ATIV Odyssey is speculated to be an entry-level handset that will be positioned lower then the mid-range Nokia Lumia 822. Currently, there is no word on the release date and pricing details of the smartphone. However, considering Verizon offers the Lumia 822 for free on contract, it is likely that the carrier will take the same route for the ATIV Odyssey when the smartphone hits the market.
With Samsung's CES press event scheduled for Monday, Jan. 7, we'll soon know if the company gives us a sneak peek into its ATIV Odyssey.
