Anu Passary email: a.passary@mobilenapps.com

By the look of things, it seems that 2013 will be the year when size does matter as smartphones get bigger, better, and faster. A new trend that tilts in the favor of 5-inch plus smartphones with Full HD 1080p displays seem to emerging, and CES 2013 is gearing up to be the platform of choice where these high-end devices will make their first official appearance.

We take a peek at the smartphones to expect (and not expect) at the CES 2013. Here's our Part 2 of the two-part event preview.

LG

Recent leaks suggest that LG has a new high-end 5.5-inch smartphone with a 1080p display in the pipeline. The Android-powered smartphone, dubbed the Optimus G2, was speculated to make an appearance at the CES 2013. However, considering LG launched its predecessor the Optimus G in Nov. 2012, the move seemed to defy logic and, not surprisingly, Optimus G2 did a no-show at LG's CES 2013 press conference on Monday.

Huawei

China-based Huawei has put itself on the smartphone map with its Ascend Mate that sports a ginormous 6.1-inch display. Richard Yu, the company's Chairman of Devices, was spotted with the phablet at a Huawei store, giving us a fleeting glimpse of the device.

Earlier in Dec. 2012, Yu confirmed that the company would be releasing its Ascend D2 and first-ever WP8 smartphone - Ascend W1 - at the CES. Recently, press shots of all three devices i.e. the Ascend Mate, Ascend W1, and Ascend D2 leaked online, giving eager fans more fodder for speculation.

ZTE

ZTE has confirmed that it will be taking the wraps off its 5-inch Grand S phablet. The Grand S from the company is in keeping with the current trend of -inch plus smartphones with 1080p displays. ZTE's Grand S is touted to be the slimmest Full HD smartphone to date and is just 7.6mm thick. The Chinese company also previewed the uber thin Grand S in multiple colors at its design offices in Shanghai.

Additionally, ZTE is reportedly working on a 5.7-inch phablet but it is not known if this device will make an appearance at the CES 2013. For all we know, ZTE may choose to pull out a few rabbit from its hat and surprise us all!

ZTE's press conference to introduce its Grand S is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 1.30PM.
