Are you a fan of Temple Run? If yes, you're in for some good news as the immensely popular and addictive mobile game is getting a sequel. That's right folks - Temple Run 2 for iOS has arrived.

The gameplay mechanics for Temple Run 2 remain unchanged, but the sequel has received new graphics and "organic environments", additional powerups, more achievements, new obstacles, bigger monkey, as well as special powers for each character. The option to purchase in-game upgrades like Coin Value, Coin Magnet, Shield Duration, Pickup Spawn, Boost Distance, Power Meter etc. is also available.

The environment in Temple Run 2 has changed from the traditional rainforest and temple to an old fortress. Players also get to ride a mine cart which steers them through the mine zone. Temple Run 2 also sees the introduction of three new characters, apart from Guy Dangerous, which takes the total tally to four. The interface of Temple Run 2 seems more fluid and the animation of the game seems improved.

"With over 170 million downloads, Temple Run redefined mobile gaming. Now get more of the exhilarating running, jumping, turning and sliding you love in Temple Run 2!," notes the app description.

And, with iOS getting the game which redefined mobile gaming, can Android be far behind? Android fans need not fret as creator Keith Shepherd has confirmed that the Temple Run 2 for Android will release next week.

The original Temple Run boasts some stupendous download figures - 170 million, of which 75 million are for iOS alone. Whether Temple Run 2 can replicate or surpass the original's success remains to be seen.

Temple Run 2 is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (third, fourth, and fifth generation), and iPad. It is optimized for iPhone 5 and requires iOS 4.2 or later. To download Temple Run 2 for iOS, head here.
