The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 event is just over a month away and rumors regarding the launch of many Samsung devices have been surfacing. The latest rumors suggest that the next-generation of Samsung's mid-segment smartphone, the Galaxy XCover 2, will make its appearance at the event.
Fans will be hoping for the launch of the Galaxy S4, but not everyone will be able to buy the top-end smartphone. Samsung, which caters to entry-, mid-, and top-segments is expected to launch the Galaxy XCover 2 at MWC 2013. The phone is targeted at those who don't want to spend a lot of money for the high-end devices like Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3.
Per the leaks, the smartphone is codenamed Skomer and has the official name Galaxy XCover 2. The device will sport a 4-inch TFT 480 × 800 WVGA display and run on either Android 4.1 or 4.2 Jelly Bean.
The smartphone will be equipped with a 5-megapixel rear-facing and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera. A 1700mAh battery will fuel the smartphone. The device will have 4GB of internal storage with the option to expand to a further 32GB using a microSD card.
The smartphone is speculated to measure 5.13 x 2.66 x 0.46 inch and weigh 5.22 ounces. The smartphone will also have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
Details regarding the processor are not yet known, but compared to the previous iteration that included a single core, 800 MHz, Marvell MG2 processor; the Galaxy XCover 2 should have a better processor.
Currently, not many smartphones are dust- and water-resistant, but leaks suggest that the next-generation Galaxy XCover 2 will be both dust- and water-proof. Earlier this month, Sony introduced its dust- and water-proof smartphone Xperia Z at CES 2013.
Price and release date of Galaxy XCover 2 is not known, but Samsung is likely to release more details at the MWC in late February.
