Motorola has been back in the news for quite a while now mainly due to a heavily rumored 'X Phone' that has been making rounds on the Internet. Now more news has arrived from that front.
Per reports, the upcoming Motorola X Phone is now expected to arrive with the next-generation Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, and could also arrive at this year's Google I/O.
It has been speculated that the new device will be a 5-inch, edge-to-edge, no-bezel, device, and although not a Nexus device, the device is highly rumored to be the first phone from Motorola which will be a cross-carrier-branded device. Many Web sites claim that since the device is expected to be a cross-carrier-branded device, that's why it has been named 'X.'
This, if true, will be a huge move as far as both Google and Motorola are concerned. As of now, Motorola's partnership with Google hasn't reaped any real fruits, and the X could just be the answer to that.
The Droid Guy writes that since Google's acquisition of Motorola back in 2011, there have been several reports claiming that Google "is looking to create a new niche of smartphones along with Motorola." However, nothing like that happened as "Google went ahead and launched the Samsung Galaxy Nexus a couple months later and the LG made Nexus 4 the next year. So most of us began thinking that Google-acquired Motorola merely to gain ownership of their patents. However, at about the same time we started hearing rumors about the Motorola X Phone being in the works."
The new rumors related to the device's size and Android version has recently emerged at Droid Forums. The report states that owing to the device's 5-inch edge-to-edge display, it will actually look and feel smaller than a Samsung Galaxy S3. Moreover, while the device is not a new Nexus device and "while this may initially bring unhappiness to some," it will be designed to be its own "new hyper-competitive brand."
However, the biggest piece of information that has brought more excitement ahead of the device's release is the fact that it could arrive at this year's Google I/O. However, everything is in a rumored mode at the moment and more could be revealed once the Google I/O begins later this year.
