Currents from Google has a huge fan following on both Android and iOS, and now the developers have added a bit more to make the experience a bit more special.
Per reports, Currents has become latest Google-tailored app to receive a major update for its iOS version, and now joins the same league as Google Maps, YouTube and Gmail 2.0, as far as a design renaissance is concerned.
While the app has been an outstanding source of news all this while in the most beautiful way possible, the new 2.0 version adds yet more to the app. As of now, with the new update, the navigation has been altered in line with the new look, and users, now instead of swiping between pages within a particular publication, will be treated to all the stories appearing in a vertical stream, with horizontal swipes taking the user to the next source.
A new breaking stories section has also been introduced with the brand new update. This has been introduced to accumulate and offer important stories from Google News. Moreover, the basic UI now comes with a new sidebar, a pretty common thing seen previously on other iOS-based apps such as Facebook and Path. The sidebar lets users easily switch between publications. There's also a new catalog design alongside the option to save important stories for future references.
However, Currents is not the only iOS app that has been updated as YouTube Capture has also joined the list with a jump to version 1.1. The YouTube Capture app has now added support for 1080p uploads, improved audio syncing, detailed upload feedback, and a boatload of bug fixes and stability enhancements.
"Google Currents delivers beautiful magazine-like editions to your tablet and smartphone for high speed and offline reading," the official page states.
Prior to the new update, the app already offered the highly popular option of high speed offline reading with quick-touch sharing.
The app self-adapts to differently sized phones and tablets, with subscriptions synchronized across devices, alongside the option to use Google translate technology to translate editions into a preferred language depending in the user's choice. As of now, as many as 44 languages are supported.
