Nokia Lumia owners who have been waiting to upgrade their handset from Windows Phone 7.5 to Windows Phone 7.8 will be pleased to learn that the software upgrade is now rolling out for the older Nokia devices.
Nokia started pushing out the update to the older Lumia handsets on Thursday, Jan. 30 and the update will continue being rolled out through February.
"The Windows Phone 7.8 update is beginning its rollout to phones currently running on Windows Phone 7.5. You can transform your Nokia Lumia with a host of exciting new personalisation features, such as the ability to resize your tiles, new lock screen options, and more theme colours," noted Nokia.
Recently, a leaked internal e-mail from AT&T had disclosed that the Lumia 900 would be getting the Windows Phone 7.8 update from Jan. 30. So, users can expect that the carrier will push out the update soon.
The Windows Phone 8 update brings new features and enhancements users' way, which include a revamped home screen, new lock screen options, additional theme colors, imaging enhancements like Camera Extras etc.
The Nokia Lumia devices that are slated to get the Windows Phone 7.8 update are as follows:
- Nokia Lumia 510
- Nokia Lumia 610
- Nokia Lumia 710
- Nokia Lumia 800
- Nokia Lumia 900
The update is not an over-the-air (OTA) one and users would need to connect their phone to a computer via Zune for PC or the Windows Phone app for Mac to update. To get a better idea on how to go about it, follow the instructions in the video below.
The "delivery of the update is operator dependent" and users will receive the notification in the coming weeks, depending on the network operator they are on.
To ensure that your Nokia Lumia does not miss out on the update, make sure that the notifications are enabled on your handset. To do this go to Settings > Phone Update > Notify me when new updates are found.
