If you own an iPhone 5 and have been waiting for an untethered Jailbreak you might get lucky this Sunday. If you don't own an iPhone 5 but your iOS device is running iOS 6.1 you'll also be able to use this new untethered Jailbreak.
Jailbreaking has become a right of passage in the iOS world. There are so many cool apps, tweaks, enhancements, etc. that can be installed on your iOS device only if you jailbreak. I've been jailbreaking since the original iPhone debuted in 2007 and when the App Store was only a dream and jailbreaking was the only way you could enhance your iPhone if you could actually figure out how to jailbreak it. The process was much more difficult back in the day, requiring you to SSH into your device, and use Command Prompt on Windows and Terminal on OS X in order to gain access. Things have gotten substantially easier over the years, letting the average person easily jailbreak their iOS device.
Through the years Apple has made it increasingly more difficult to jailbreak iOS devices but thankfully the jailbreak community has always figured out a way to make it happen. With the release of the iPhone 5, Apple really locked things down and created quite a challenge to jailbreak the device. It has been over four months since the iPhone 5 was released and the longest period without a jailbreaking solution.
It appears that things are about to change and you'll be able to jailbreak your iPhone 5 and iOS devices running iOS 6.1 possibly on Super Bowl Sunday. The Evad3rs team, which is made up of jailbreaking veterans, have been working on iOS 6.1 beta for months and have announced that they've created an untethered jailbreak while waiting for Apple to release iOS 6.1 so Apple didn't get a chance to fix any security holes in iOS 6.1 preventing their jailbreak from working. Apple released iOS 6.1 a few days ago and it looks like we'll finally see an untethered jailbreak.
Make sure you check the evasi0n site this Sunday to see if the tool has been released. We'll be sure to post an update announcing the availability of the evasi0n jailbreak. Happy Jailbreaking!
