While Apple has been placed heavily under the rumored section with talks of a new iPhone 5S and a cheaper iPhone 6, a brand new iDevice has already started flooding the Internet with different Web sites discussing about different aspects of the new device.
Per reports, new information has started flowing stating that a brand new iPhone with a larger screen could be in works at the Cupertino-based company, and could also make an appearance later this year.
However, those of the fans who have been following Apple-related stories devotedly over the past few months, will know that this information is not something new as only last month such an iDevice actually came into contention with the possibility of featuring a massive 4.8-inch (or five inch) screen.
Although the rumor later died out with most of the eyes following the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6, it seems like the so-called "iPhablet" is back in news and this time with more information to follow. Analyst Ben Reitzes of Barclays Capital took up the discussion yet again stating he's "longing for an iPhablet."
Reitzes also writes that these phablets will arrive to dominate the existing Apple-based smartphone shipment growth that will see a rise of 105 percent between last year and 2015, that is, from 27 million units to 230 million. Due to this, the one-handed use of the iPhone 5 is "less important since phone calls are becoming less important than navigation, texting, videos, books and Web access for many."
Nonetheless, the most interesting thing about his report, per a Pocketnow report, "is just how large a device Apple might be looking to, which he squarely frames as a phablet rather than simply the larger smartphone still in the four-inch range we've been talking about so far."
However, Reitzes is not expecting such a phablet from Apple to arrive immediately. This is because he believes that the company will first introduce the highly speculated iPhone 5S in the middle of the current year, followed by a cheaper model of the device for up-and-coming markets. When these two are done with, then Apple might think about or even introduce a brand new iPhone with a five inch screen in the last quarter of this fiscal year, or the beginning of next year.
"On the whole, though, notes Reitzes, 'We believe the most important advances for the iPhone in 2013 will be actually be improvements to iOS and its services, which can expand the market for Apple'," Barron's states.
