The Galaxy S4 is easily one of the highly rumored smartphones, and the device is in news almost every day with new details emerging on the Internet every once in a while. Now there's more to follow up on the device.
Per reports, the next-generation Galaxy smartphone is expected to arrive with a boatload of new features, and a few of them being a smarter Wi-Fi and a longer battery life.
The Galaxy S4 is said to arrive with a new Wi-Fi chip that will connect the device in a longer range, with enhanced speed combined with an improved battery life. This, in turn, could help Samsung deliver a thinner Galaxy S4.
Only recently, an analyst with Evercore Partners Peter Wang told Barron's that verifying with the supply chain signify that Samsung is set to use a brand new Broadcom 4335 chip in the upcoming Galaxy S4. The new chip is said to be the first of its kind to offer 5G Wi-Fi for a Samsung device, while also delivering more suppleness in design, keeping in mind the benefits to consumers.
As far as a smarter Wi-Fi is concerned, this chip is said to support, per a Gotta Be Mobile report, "a number of Wi-Fi driven features such as Miracast, PassPoint and WiFi Direct. Miracast is already on many devices, and it allows users to quickly mirror their smartphone to a compatible HDTV or connected accessory, much like AirPlay on an iPhone." The support for Miracast is already built in to Android 4.2 and into this new chip.
Moreover, this chip is also said to diminish the long complained interference from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with 4G LTE. The advantage here is that it could allow the next Galaxy smartphone to work better while connected to 4G LTE. Although there's hardly any detail about this from Broadcom, but it could "make switching from Wi-Fi to 4G LTE and back a more seamless experience."
The battery for S4 is also said to support a longer battery life by introducing the similar power efficient Broadcom chip in the iPhone 5, which also helped Apple to shrink the overall size of the smartphone to 7.6mm in 2012.
However, if Samsung decides introduce the chip into its new device, "it could allow Samsung to shrink the size of the smartphone while increasing the screen to a 4.99-inch 1080P HD display without significant battery life sacrifices."
