Microsoft has entered the tablet market with two Surface tablets, Surface RT and Surface Pro. Both tablets pack impressive features and the company hopes to make a mark with them in the hotly-contested tablet space.
Here's how the Surface Pro and the Surface RT stack up against each other:
Form Factor
The Surface RT measures 10.81 x 6.77 x 0.37 inches and weighs 1.50 pounds. At 10.81 x 6.81 x 0.53 inches, the Surface Pro is slightly thicker and taller than the Surface RT. The Surface Pro, at 2.0 pounds, is also heavier than the Surface RT.
Display
The Surface RT sports a 10.6-inches TFT capacitive touchscreen with 1366 x 768 pixels resolution and 148 ppi. The Surface Pro also has a 10.6-inches display but with a higher display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The pixels density of the Surface Pro is also higher at 208 ppi.
Chipset/Processor
A Nvidia Tegra 3 T30 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz powers the Surface RT. On the other hand, a dual core Intel Core i5 processor powers the Surface Pro.
Memory
The Surface RT is available with 32/64GB on-board storage options, while the Surface Pro is available with 64/128GB internal storage choices. Both tablets have the option to expand their memory by 64GB more using a microSD card.
Operating System And Apps/Software
The Surface features the Microsoft Windows RT operating system, whereas the Surface Pro features Surface Windows 8 Pro operating system.
Surface RT users get Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote optimized for tablets. On the other hand, Surface Pro users have the ability to purchase and run the full Office Suite.
Battery Time
The Surface RT is equipped with a 31.5 Wh battery; on the other hand, the Surface Pro is equipped with a bigger 42.0 Wh battery.
Colors & Price
Both the Surface RT and the Surface Pro are available in Dark Titanium. The Surface RT has a starting price tag of $499, whereas the Surface Pro starts at $899.
Connectivity And Ports
Both the Surface RT and Surface Pro have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but no cellular versions, which means that if a user does not have Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot then the device cannot be connected to the Internet.
