There's a new iPhone on the horizon with a rumored polycarbonate body and 4.5 inch of screen real estate. Furthermore, the follow-up to the iPhone 5, which is either the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, is of similar specifications but without the polycarbonate shell.
Japanese blog Macotakara revealed the information on Thursday that Apple has delayed the release of a larger-screen iPhone 5 successor into 2014, which is quite long considering how competitive the market is right now. However, while the iPhone 5 successor has been delayed, a cheaper version with a polycarbonate shell is slated for this year at the cool price of $330.
"Apple apparently hopes to price its new entry-level iPhone at $330, matching what the company charges for the iPad mini. The entry-level iPhone is also expected to be thicker than the iPhone 5, thanks to the use of a polycarbonate body rather than aluminum and glass. The thicker material will reportedly increase the durability of the device," says Apple Insider.
It is quite interesting to see Apple jumping on the big screen smartphone bandwagon. This trend of making phones bigger than they truly need to be is a sign of a lack of innovative design where smartphone manufacturers are concerned. When the phones can't get any bigger, what will OEMs do then?
