The Microsoft-owned VoIP service, Skype has rolled out version 4.6 for its iPad, iPod touch and iPhone app adding several tweaks, fixes and improvements in addition to a redesigned calling experience.
Apart from an improved calling user interface, the upgrade brings many enhancements to the service including putting the one-to-one chats in the correct order, adding an option to select the message as 'read' with just a few taps as well as a number of general bug fixes and improvements, the official note states.
The redesigned call screen now looks more polished and offers an easy, cleaner interface. In addition to conversions being shown in the correct order, the non-edited message will not listed as edited after pressing save button, which makes it easier to keep a tab on things. Popover will be dismissed in incoming call screen henceforth.
Dial pad and in-call buttons appear correctly while tapping on the screen during a call and the recent list will be displayed in correct order.
VoiceOver will now help read more than before including unread message labels (only for iPad) as well as the '+' button, 'Skype terms of use' and 'Show side bar' button. In another major teak, the incoming and outgoing file transfer picture preview will be displayed in proper rotation with the update.
There are a couple of issues for which fixes are in progress at present. Two issues are related to Conversations and three are connected with VoiceOver. In Conversations, the last scroll position is not preserved currently and users are required to re-log in to see the Chat/SMS toggle button if the contact added a new phone number to profile while chatting. Coming to VoiceOver, incorrect chat text label reading is an unfixed issue in addition to unread messages cannot be read in iPhone and background items are selectable when Left Hand Side Bar is on top of the screen.
