Sprint has announced official roll out of Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 update to Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Owners of the Sprint version of Tab 2 10.1 will receive a slight UI makeover with the update in addition to other usual Jelly Bean goodies such as Google Now, expanded notification and widgets. The operating system upgrade will bring in an update for the Device Self Activation Client, a Qualcomm Wi-Fi Driver fix and a Wi-Fi Connections Optimizer update as well.
The update is being release Over-The-Air (OTA) and it would take a few weeks to cover all the outstanding units. Sprint customers who own a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be alerted through an update notification and then the users can download the update. Upon successful download, users will be prompted to install the update and the installation would only take a few minutes.
Tab 2 10.1 users are likely to lose the screenshot shortcut of their tablet, a feature that's apparently quite popular amongst owners of the WiFi variant. As Android Authority notes, you can still take a screenshot by pressing and holding the power button and volume down on the tab at the same time.
Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 update will bring a number of improvements and new functionalities to Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with Google Now being the most important of all. "Google Now gets you just the right information at just the right time, like how much traffic to expect before you leave for work or when the next train will arrive as you're standing on the platform. Google Now can be accessed by launching the Google app from the app tray," Sprint said in a press release.
The update further offers smooth transition capabilities enabling effortless movement between home screens and apps like turning pages of a book. Expandable and actionable notifications will allow the Tab users to take action directly from the notifications panel. With the new widget improvement, everything else moves as you place a widget on the screen and if they are too big, widgets resize on their own.
The Sprint version of 4G LTE-capable Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 was originally launched through in Nov. 2012 with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in tow.
