BlackBerry has recently been on a high with talks about the latest BlackBerry offerings like the Q10 and the Z10, and now fans on Sprint can look forward to more.
Per reports, Sprint could be set to offer a mysterious new full touch BlackBerry handset later this year, and the device will be an entirely avatar different from the latest Z10.
The information that Sprint will be offering a brand new BlackBerry handset was first revealed by an AllThingsD report that mentioned about the device straight out from a source who is familiar with the device.
“The No. 3 U.S. carrier plans to launch an all-touch BlackBerry-10-powered device in the second half of the year, according to a source familiar with the situation,” the report states. “The device is a follow-on handset to the Z10, rather than just a slightly modified version of the initial all-touch phone being sold by Sprint’s rivals.”
Basically, according to this “source,” Sprint actually intends to carry a full-touch BlackBerry 10 phone in 2013, although that will not happen until the second half the year. Moreover, the new BlackBerry model arriving on Sprint could also be the second version of the Z10.
This new revelation makes some sense owing to the fact that a BlackBerry executive had previously stated that BB fans could expect at least six new BlackBerry 10 models this year, and so it's rational to guess that one of those could be a refreshed version.
Previously, in an interview with Fierce Wireless back in January, CMO Frank Boulben said that there will be at least six BlackBerry 10 phones released in 2013, and that the company would aim to hit a range of price points at the high, middle and lower end of the market with its BB10 devices.
“RIM has framed BlackBerry 10 as the key to the company's future, and many analysts think RIM's very existence will rest largely on how the platform is received by carriers and, ultimately, enterprises and consumers. Boulben expressed confidence, noting than 150 carriers are testing BB10 phones around the world,” it was stated at that time.
As of now, Sprint has officially confirmed that the company will only carry the Q10, and this is a move that was announced back in January. The keyboard-equipped Q10 is expected to hit some countries in April, although BlackBerry has already confirmed that it will take longer to reach the U.S.
