Since the announcement of Windows 8, controversy surrounded the operating system, more so when it was officially released back in 2012. The main problem users faced had mainly to do with the new Modern user interface that allows Windows 8 products to compete with tablets.
But if you're a person who is interested in leveraging the best features of Windows 8 on the Desktop user interface, Stardock has released a new application called ModernMix, an app that aims to allow users to run Windows 8 modern apps from the new start screen on the Desktop.
Many users would love to take advantage of the modern applications; however, that would force them to continuously be in the modern UI. ModernMix can fix that problem, and it does so pretty well. ModernMix also allows for something Microsoft failed to do, and that is true multi-tasking of modern applications. Previously, users were subjected to only multitasking two apps at the same time — this makes for an OS that felt like it was Android or iOS with unnecessary limitations.
Using ModernMix isn't a complicated affair. After downloading and installing the app, users can choose how modern apps function. For example, users can choose whether or not to launch a modern app from the start menu in Fullscreen or Windowed. When launched in Windowed, the app will show up on the Desktop like any other normal app. However, there is always the option to manually bring an app back and forth from Fullscreen to Windowed or vice versa.
Once on the Desktop, modern Windows 8 apps will multi-task like any other application.
Stardock is the developer behind Start8, the utility that possesses the power to bring back the Start Button in the Windows 8 taskbar. No doubt, ModernMix works so well due to developers who are well known to produce quality utilities to enhance the basic features of Windows.
You can download ModernMix here. The program is currently in Beta, so give the trial a test run for 30 days. Then there is always the option to purchase the full app for $5.
