Owners of the original ASUS PadFone seemed to have been forgotten when it came to system upgrades, but the hybrid is finally getting a taste of Jelly Bean.
While ASUS PadFone 2 owners received an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at the end of 2012, owners of the original PadFone were left at the bottom of the priorities list. ASUS now finally decided to push an Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update to the original PadFone as well.
Besides the Android version upgrade, the software also comes with several tweaks and improvements that fix various issues on the hybrid device. With the new update, the dictionary feature is now better, the Camera preview feature is revamped, and the Scrapbook and File Manager apps get enhancements as well. The Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean system upgrade will also improve the Volume Key issue, and will also enable the PadFone to support SD card NTFS & EX Fat format.
The original ASUS PadFone currently has two versions of the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update, namely WWE for worldwide users and CHT for China. Other versions will roll out in the near future. The system upgrade to Jelly Bean is available for download from the ASUS official website.
The original ASUS PadFone made its debut back in June 2012 with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) on board, and it never got an Android update until now. The hybrid device sports 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and a pixel density of roughly 256 pixels per inch (ppi), as well as Corning Gorilla Glass on top for protection. The slate packs a Qualcomm MSM8260A Snapdragon SoC, which includes a dual-core 1.5GHz Krait CPU and an Adreno 225 GPU.
Other specs and features include 1GB of RAM, an eight-megapixel primary camera with autofocus and LED flash capable of recording 1080p video, and a secondary VGA camera. In terms of on-board storage, the original ASUS PadFone comes in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB configurations, and supports micro SD cards for additional memory.
According to the official ASUS page, the update is currently rolling out and is only available for download.
