Verizon is finally selling the BlackBerry Z10, and it sports a $199.99 price tag with a two-year contract.
Amid reports that Blackberry (formerly known as Research in Motion, or RIM for short) shipped one million BlackBerry Z10 units last quarter, the nation's largest carrier is launching the first BlackBerry 10 handset.
The BlackBerry Z10 is now available on Verizon for $199.99 after signing a two-year commitment with the carrier, and the all-touch smartphone comes in black and white color options.
The smartphone itself took quite some time until it finally became available in the U.S. last week, on March 22. The next quarterly report from BlackBerry will likely show just how well the new all-touch handset performs.
Meanwhile, the arrival of the BlackBerry Z10 on Verizon means the nation's largest carrier joined AT&T and T-Mobile, becoming the third U.S. carrier to offer this device. Sprint already said it will pass on the BlackBerry Z10 this time.
In addition to the $199.99 price tag for the 16GB BlackBerry Z10, Verizon is also offering free two-day shipping on online orders placed Monday through Friday before 4:30 p.m.
The BlackBerry Z10 is the new flagship smartphone for the struggling company, and BlackBerry placed all its bets on this device to stay relevant in an increasingly competitive market. The Z10 is BlackBerry's first full-touch device, sporting a 4.2-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 and a pixel density of 365 pixels per inch (ppi).
Other specs and features include a powerful Qualcomm dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel shooter, removable battery and a micro SD card slot. In terms of connectivity, the BlackBerry Z10 supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS. The smartphone also comes with a new messaging center called BlackBerry Hub, a refreshing update in the form of the BlackBerry browser, screen-sharing capabilities, and a new stock software keyboard.
Overall, the BlackBerry Z10 is not the most exciting smartphone currently available on the market, but it is fast, responsive and quite easy to use. The launch delays may be a turnoff for many consumers, but those who still want to give it a try can now check out Verizon as well.
