Owners of Samsung Galaxy S2 devices on AT&T are waiting for an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for a long time, and just to disappoint them more, AT&T has released a minor software update but not the Jelly Bean update for the devices.
Samsung has already released the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S2 devices across the world, but in the U.S. only Sprint has released the updated firmware for its Galaxy S2 customers.
According to some AT&T Galaxy S2 users' comments on XDA forums, many owners have received the minor software update rolled out by AT&T and all of them confirm that the update is not a Jelly Bean update.
"As some of you have already noted, an update is available for the Samsung Galaxy S2. The update includes fixes for devices that may become unresponsive and/or power down while sitting idle on rare occasions. It also enhances security to protect against malware vulnerability. You will receive a notification on your phone to update. NOTE - You must have updated to Android version 4.0 to receive notification of the new software update," a user posted on XDA Forum.
The update is believed to be fixing the sleep of death problem in many Galaxy S2 devices.
"As much as I would have preferred this update to be JB, I'm glad that it addresses the SOD. It's about time, AT&T! For months now I've been missing important calls and messages. And by "rare occasion", do you mean, 5 to 6 times daily? The good news, I downloaded the update on Friday and have not experienced any unresponsive idles or shutdowns," a member posted.
Although the update fixes some problems related to Samsung Galaxy S2 devices on AT&T network, users of Galaxy S2 devices are still waiting for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
The wait has become more painful as a couple of big carriers have already rolled out the update for their customers. Sprint became the first U.S. carrier to give Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to its Samsung Galaxy S2 owners, whereas Three UK was the first carrier to roll out the firmware update for the users of Samsung Galaxy S2.
