An update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is finally underway to put AT&T users of the Samsung Galaxy S2 out of their misery.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is an older handset and, as it often happens, it seems nearly cast into oblivion when it comes to updates. With two other iterations after it - the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the new Galaxy S4 flagship - the Galaxy S2 may not be a priority, but plenty of consumers still have this handset.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket got an update to Android Jelly Bean a couple of months ago, but AT&T customers were not invited to that party. AT&T's model of the Samsung Galaxy S2 has the model number SGH-I777, and it was the only one left stuck on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).
In what can only be great news for all those patient Galaxy S2 users on AT&T, an XDA Developers thread shows the update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is finally available for download via the Samsung Kies software. It may not be the very latest version of Android, but at least it will bump things up a notch from ICS. According to users who already updated their devices, the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 Android Jelly Bean update will boost the smartphone to version 4.1.2, with the build number UCMD8.
The update is definitely a notable improvement over the previous ICS software the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 was left with. Users will surely get the almighty Google Now, as well as a smoother performance and improved notifications, among lots of other improvements. Find the complete changelog here released by Samsung.
As previously mentioned, the update is currently available via Samsung Kies. So far it's hard to tell when the over-the-air (OTA) update will roll out, but it should happen anytime now. The update is certainly long overdue and it tested the patience of all Samsung Galaxy S2 users on AT&T, especially after users on other networks got Jelly Bean a while ago. All things considered, it's better late than never. To get the latest update, just connect to a computer and fire up Samsung Kies.
