Nokia's most affordable Windows Phone 8 device, the Lumia 520, is available now in India after being released in that country three weeks ago along with its bigger sibling, the Lumia 720.
The device from the Finnish giant is available in all major online retail channels across India such as Snapdeal and Saholic for a ₹10,499 price-tag. For those who are awaiting the Lumia 720, this device will become available by the third week of April for an unannounced price.
The Lumia 520 is very comparable to the Lumia 620. However, the main differences between the two is the screen size. The Lumia 520 has a 4-inch WVGA IPS display with 800 x 480p, while the 620 has a smaller 3.8-inches display with the same resolution, which makes for a slightly better pixel per inch.
Furthermore, the Lumia 520 has a larger battery capacity compared to the Lumia 620, but the 1GHz dual core processor, 512MB RAM, and 8GB internal storage remains the same across the board. Due to the bigger screen, bigger battery, and cheaper price tag, it would come as no surprise if the Lumia 520 cannibalize sales of the Lumia 620, because it is an all-round better device for less. (The Lumia 620 cost around ₹14,000.)
The Lumia 520 is Nokia's latest foray in getting Windows Phone 8 devices down to more affordable price points. Nokia's first effort came with the Lumia 620, a device that performed relatively well in markets like China and other parts of Asia. By being a cheaper device, the Lumia 520 could become the bestselling Windows Phone 8 device of 2013.
