In 2024, Samsung plans to expand its Google Cloud-powered Galaxy AI service to around 100 million Galaxy mobile devices worldwide. The most current Samsung Galaxy S24 series brought the generative AI service. TM Roh, President and Head of MX business at Samsung Electronics, said the features would be free until 2025 while discussing the expenses associated with creating Galaxy AI.

Samsung Mulls Monetization Options for Galaxy AI

Roh emphasized that Samsung recognizes diverse consumer needs for mobile AI and aims to provide options, including free AI capabilities and potentially introducing premium features for users who are willing to pay. The company plans to assess various factors and consider consumer preferences in making decisions about the future monetization strategy for Galaxy AI.

In addition to the AI plans, Samsung wants to enhance its manufacturing capabilities in India.

In order to satisfy domestic market demand, Roh stated that Samsung plans to manufacture laptops in India. Samsung's Noida plant in India will produce the laptops, demonstrating the company's dedication to supporting local manufacturing and meeting the demands of Indian customers.

Samsung's strategy, which focuses on offering a variety of goods and services and fostering the expansion of India's technology industry, is in line with this move.

Understanding Galaxy AI

Galaxy AI, integrated into Samsung's S24 series, is a comprehensive suite of AI-powered features that enhance daily tasks and communication. Focused on simplifying life, it includes features like Live Translate for voice and text translations, ideal for international communication.

According to Samsung, Transcript Assist aids in transcribing audio and video content, while Circle to Search allows users to draw around objects in photos for quick searches.

Generative Edit uses AI to enhance image backgrounds. The ProVisual Engine revolutionizes search with more accurate and relevant results. Samsung aims to optimize user experience, providing advanced functionalities and making smartphones more intuitive and efficient.

The S24 series is just the beginning, as Galaxy AI is set to reach about 100 million Galaxy devices worldwide in 2024, with a commitment to keeping these features free until 2025.

Samsung Partners with Baidu to Integrate Ernie Chatbot in Galaxy S24 Smartphones

Samsung is set to integrate Baidu's Ernie chatbot into its Galaxy S24 smartphones in China, introducing real-time translation during calls and enhancing the capabilities of the Samsung Note Assistant.

Ernie, Baidu's chatbot, is designed to generate human-like responses to user prompts, akin to OpenAI's ChatGPT. This integration aims to streamline text organization, allowing the Note Assistant to translate and summarize content with a single click. Samsung's move to leverage Ernie in the competitive Chinese smartphone market follows its recent Galaxy S24 lineup launch, where AI-powered features were highlighted.

Baidu's Ernie 4.0, introduced in October, is considered the most potent version of the Ernie foundation model to date, incorporating advanced capabilities such as understanding, generation, reasoning, and memory. According to Baidu, Ernie 4.0 and OpenAI's GPT-4 model are not less capable. It is representative of the broader tendency, prompted by remarkable innovations in semiconductor technology, that embraces advanced AI features within compact consumer devices, including smartphones.

The move to discontinue its homeland-made products on the Asian market only strengthens Samsung's strategic effort to boost its offers in China, considering that this region also serves as a product center for numerous local and international smartphone producers.
