Windows Phone fans in the U.S. who are on the Verizon Wireless network, prepare yourself, as Nokia gets ready to announce the Lumia 928, the latest device in Nokia's smartphone portfolio.
According to Nokia-Lumia-928, a website that obviously is all about the Lumia 928, the device will officially be introduced on Verizon come April 25. The source claims that after the device is announced, it will go on sale in the next two weeks, on either May 2 or May 9. Still, it's all a bit difficult to take seriously when all we've heard so far of the Lumia 928 is rumors.
However, there are a few things to consider: Verizon is known for launching phones on a Thursday. The Lumia 822 was launched on a Thursday. So too were the BlackBerry Z10 and the LG Lucid 2. In addition, Verizon will launch the Samsung Galaxy S4 on May 30, so if the Lumia goes on sale on May 2 or 9, this would give the device nearly a month to get into the hands of users before the Galaxy S4 marketing train takes off.
Another thing to take note of, May 2 is the date AT&T's exclusive hold on the Lumia 920 comes to an end, which could mean something.
According to the latest rumors, the Nokia Lumia 928 is thinner and lighter compared to the Lumia 920. The inside specifications are the same along with the camera; however, instead of going for LED flash, Nokia might opt for Xenon. It's understandable that the microphone and speaker positions have changed; the display is AMOLED and will be provided by Samsung, which uses less battery energy compared to the IPS display used on the Lumia 920. The tricky thing with AMOLED is its high saturation of colors; IPS displays do not have that problem.
We have no firm idea if the Lumia 928 will ever see a worldwide release. That seems unlikely since the changes compared to the Lumia 920 are minor, and at this point it seems this phone is only for Verizon Wireless.
