T-Mobile recently said that its Nokia Lumia 521 would arrive on its network sometime in May, but a new report points to an April 24 launch date.
T-Mobile first announced the Nokia Lumia 521 back in February at the Mobile World Congress. While the handset was expected to join the carrier's lineup in May, it now seems the launch is actually closer.
According to the folks over at TMO News, the T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 521 will launch this week, on Wednesday, April 24.
The Nokia Lumia 521 has nothing spectacular: it sports a 4-inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480, 8GB of internal storage with a micro SD slot for expandable memory, a 5-megapixel rear camera with 720p video recording capabilities. In terms of connectivity, the handset supports HSPA+ 21Mbps. In other words, the Nokia Lumia 521 is a budget, entry-level smartphone running Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system rather than the more popular Android and iOS platforms.
Meanwhile, TMO News also mentions a mystery surrounding the sudden disappearance of the Nokia Lumia 810 and Windows Phone 8X from T-Mobile's website. The publication published a planogram image, according to which the Nokia Lumia 810 reaches its end of life (EOL) in May. This could be the reason behind T-Mobile's move to take the item off its website prematurely. The Lumia 810 could either be out of stock, or T-Mobile could no longer have an interest in ordering the product anymore. It's a bit curious why it disappeared now instead of May. The same planogram outs the Nokia Lumia 521 as the Lumia 810 replacement, set to launch on April 24.
When it comes to the Windows Phone 8X, a source reportedly told TMO News that the platform still shows signs of life and it doesn't have any end-of-life date set yet.
Microsoft and Nokia placed high bets on the Lumia range of Windows Phone smartphones, but competition is increasingly tougher. While high-end devices may not be for everyone, budget-friendly handsets such as the Nokia Lumia 521 may spark some interest among consumers looking for an affordable entry-level smartphone.
