It seems Microsoft has finally bowed to the pressure of angry Windows fans who refuse to upgrade to Windows 8 due to the missing Start Button. The next version of Microsoft's bread and butter operating system, Windows 8.1 or Windows Blue to some, might see the return of the iconic Start Button many came to love.
According to what we understand from an article from The Verge, the new Start Button will only act as a means to access the new Start Menu. If this is the case, then it is highly possible Microsoft could be sizing itself up for another downfall. The reason many PC users require the return of the Start Button is to have the same experience on the desktop interface as when using Windows 7. By adding the Start Button for the purpose of accessing the Metro interface, Microsoft would be defeating the purpose of it altogether.
Bringing back the Start Button isn't the only change Microsoft is rumored to be implementing in Windows Blue. Recent rumors suggest users will have the option to boot directly to the desktop, bypassing the Metro interface altogether. However, this feature is off by default, but hopefully to turn it on, one isn't required to dig deep into the guts of the operating system.
Other things users should expect from Windows 8.1 is Internet Explorer 11 and smaller Live tiles. Smaller live tiles have been a part of Windows Phone 8 since day one, so it's good to see Microsoft adopting the feature into Windows 8.
Internet Explorer, on the other hand, no one knows what the new browser may bring to the table, from tab synchronization across multiple PCs and Windows Phone 8 devices. However, one thing is for certain: Microsoft needs to do more than just follow Web standards with Internet Explorer 11, or watch as Google Chrome and its new Blink rendering engine take control of the Internet.
