Samsung is dominating the smartphone market with its Galaxy S series devices, and with the launch of the Galaxy S4, the craze for the latest Samsung product has reached new heights. However, when Sony launched its Xperia Z, fans of smartphone found something really useful and exciting in the new Xperia handset.

In many of the articles on the Internet comparing the two devices, Sony Xperia Z got the advantage, as the device has almost everything the Galaxy S4 has, and it also provides great protection against dust and water.

Samsung seems to be worried about the advantage its rival holds and is apparently planning to bring out a rugged Galaxy S4 version later this year.

During the launch event of the Galaxy S4 in Dubai, Samsung Gulf Electronics President Young Soo Kim hinted at the existence of a dustproof and waterproof Galaxy S4.

According to a report from TechView, the Samsung executive told reporters during an interactive session after the Galaxy S4 launch, that a dustproof and waterproof version of the Galaxy S4 is already in the making and the device will be launched in the coming weeks.

After the launch of the Sony Xperia Z, many Samsung Galaxy users were talking about the need for a waterproof smartphone in today's world.

"The water proofing is a big deal for me. It's about time we stopped cowering away from water like a girl too afraid to ruin her perm just because we have a nice phone. Traveling, swimming and in the bath are all places we can go without worrying mow[sic]. That's pretty amazing," Simon T, a Galaxy user, said.

The Xperia Z has the IP55 and IP57 ratings that are given to a device that is dust-protected, water-jet protected and waterproof in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy S4 has already won many accolades for its tough and scratchproof display. The Galaxy S4 comes with a Gorilla Glass 3 display that stays quite clean and unharmed even after being scratched with knives and coins.

The Gorilla Glass 3 was released by Corning at this year's International CES, and the company claims that scratches on the glass are 40 percent less visible to the naked eye. 

If Samsung is really developing a device that can get IP55 and IP57 ratings, it can once again challenge the market that it started losing to the Xperia Z because of two very important features.
