With the launch of Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung was planning to take on BlackBerry's main strength that makes it the favorite among business executives. However, the plans of the Korean tech giant seem to be delayed if not failed completely.
Samsung was expecting to put its latest smartphone in the pockets of business class buyers by bringing out the device with its recently launched security feature, Samsung Knox, but people working with the project are of the view that Knox will not be ready for release before July.
According to a report from The New York Times, Samsung is yet to finish the testing of Knox, hence it has delayed the release.
Samsung was expected to release the Knox security feature on the Galaxy S4 device but as the launch has been delayed it will be interesting to see which device will become the launch-pad for the security feature.
"All the Knox framework components come standard on the device, with full-feature activation by solution providers and distribution channels to become available at a later date," as the New York Times relayed the company statement.
Samsung's high-end security feature went into development keeping the business class and enterprise in mind, and was named after Fort Knox, the highly protected U.S. Army outpost. Samsung Knox contains features such as Security Enhanced Android, TrustZone-based Integrity Monitoring, secure boot, a single sign on and an application container, very similar to Blackberry's Balance.
At the time of Knox's announcement the president of Samsung's IT and Mobile division stated, "Security and privacy are understandably held up as barriers to businesses embracing BYOD demands. Meanwhile, users are seeing the latest smartphones and tablets and knocking at the door of IT demanding to be able to use their own devices."
"The solution is clear - combine the business and personal in a single device. Samsung KNOX achieves this harmony between enterprise control and employee satisfaction by delivering fundamental security at the platform level, while leaving the user experience consistent."
Samsung Knox provides platform and application security for mobile devices, and at the same time, it also takes care of mobile device management by working with enterprise-preferred MDM vendor solutions and provides industry-leading security and management controls.
