The Nokia event scheduled for May 14 could be more than just a place for the Finnish giant to announce new phones — it could also be the event where Nokia drops the bombshell that is the Lumia tablet based on either Windows 8 or Windows RT.
Rumors of Nokia working on a tablet aren't new; we've been hearing such things for quite some time, especially after Microsoft released the Surface RT tablet. The first set of rumors claimed the Nokia tablet will run Windows RT or Windows 8, and they also claim it will come with a similar touch cover to the Surface tablets. However, it was rumored this particular cover will have a built-in battery for powering the device for a short amount of time whenever it runs out of juice.
Other rumors claim the device will have similar polycarbonate design just like the Lumia handsets, and there have also been so-called leaks, but Nokia put a bullet into those claims.
The newest rumor from GSM Insider regarding the Lumia-branded Windows 8/RT tablet claims the device will finally show its face at the May 14 Nokia event in London. Furthermore, the rumor claims the device will have a 10.1-inch display with 1366x768 pixel resolution. The processor inside is said to be of the 1GHz variety, but it wasn't clear if this would be a multicore processor or single core.
Furthermore, the Nokia tablet will have only 1GB of RAM and measures 256.6x175.3 x 9.7 mm along with weighing 676 grams.
If this device is indeed packing a 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, then it is quite clear Nokia is going the route of Windows RT instead of Windows 8 Pro. A tablet device running Windows 8 Pro with a meager 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM would not perform as expected; only a Windows RT tablet would give relatively decent performance on such a meager hardware specification.
