After rumors that Google Now would arrive on the search page of Google.com, it seems that iOS gets it first.
Google Now, the search giant's amazing personal assistant application, is now available for the Google Search app for iPhone and iPad as well. For those unfamiliar with the goodies, Google Now made its debut last June on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and quickly became immensely popular. It's not a perfect app, but it saw constant improvements since its launch and it offers some neat benefits.
Simply put, Google Now can tell users when they need to leave for their next appointment and even give them directions for getting there. The assistant can automatically track anything and everything, from the user's favorite sports team to FedEx packages and such, and it does it in real time.
Google Now displays this information on little cards and/or in notifications, which are easy to read and dismiss on the go. As privacy is always an important matter, users can decide how much or little of their personal information they are willing to share with the app. Needless to say, the more access Google Now has, the more it can do.
Apple fans can now get a taste of the goodies, as Google Now is officially part of the Google Search app for iOS. All users need to do is download the app or update it if they already have it and log into their Google account.
Google Now for iOS will basically sport the same functionality as the Android version, but some things will be missing at launch. For now, the app cannot manage users' boarding passes, concerts, events, research topics and a few other things, but those will likely arrive soon. Other than that, everything else is just as in the Jelly Bean version.
On the other hand, Google Now on iOS will not be as integrated an experience as it is on Android, but that's understandable. Google Now runs constantly in the background on Android and is always just one tap away, while iOS will likely sandbox it into Google Search, which will not allow for quite as easy access. It is there, nonetheless, and that's a great addition.
