White Nexus 4 To Launch On June 10 Rocking Latest Android 4.3

Alexandra Burlacu

The white Google Nexus 4 continues to be a hot topic of interest and new reports now suggest it may make its debut on June 10.

Many expected Google to unveil at least a new version of its existing Nexus 4 smartphone at its Google I/O conference, if not a next-generation Nexus smartphone altogether. Google did not announce a new Nexus, but the white version of the Nexus 4 that generated a lot of buzz in the tech blogosphere recently did make an appearance at the big event.

After a Google+ user posted pictures of a white Nexus 4 smartphone purchased from a "local buy and sell Web site" ahead of the Google I/O 2013 developers conference, new reports are now surfacing. Android and Me got its hands on the elusive white Nexus 4 and confirms the new handset is "a carbon copy of the previous Nexus 4, just with a different casing."

While a new color option may not be the most exciting news, especially amid expectations of a next-generation Nexus smartphone, the report does mention the upcoming Android 4.3 mobile operating system. According to Android and Me, the white version of the Nexus 4 will hit the Google Play Store on June 10 and rock the latest Android 4.3.

Google was widely expected to show off Android 4.3 during its I/O conference, but it now seems the tech giant intentionally skipped the next version of Android at the show. Some sources at Google reportedly said the company wanted to prove their ability to roll out new services and APIs without upgrading the Android firmware itself, and it seems it made its point.

It's not very clear at this point just what goodies Android 4.3 will bring, but it will likely come as a minor update from Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The developer API level should climb to version 18, packing support for Bluetooth Smart and possibly OpenGL ES 3.0, but little details are available.

Android and Me further notes that Android 4.3 may roll out to all current Nexus devices - Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 - when it goes live in June, but it cannot confirm this for now.
