Recently we reported that Windows 8.1 would get the official Facebook and Flipboard apps and now it seems Windows Phone 8 is getting in on the party of new apps. The apps in question are Mint and Flipboard, though no word on whether or not Instagram will hit the Windows Phone store before 2014.
Apparently, both developers have made announcements that these apps are coming to Windows Phone 8. A user on Reddit highlighted an image where a Flipboard employee who goes by the name Jason Pearson, responded to an email where he confirmed the existence of the Windows Phone 8 version of the app. He said Flipboard will be available on both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, though he did not state when users can expect to give the app a spin.
On the other hand, Mint developers came out to announce a Windows Phone 8 version of the app on Facebook. Not only will Mint be available for Windows Phone 8, but for Windows 8 as well, and it is all happening before the end of 2013. These apps coming to the Windows Phone 8 platform is great news for Microsoft and Nokia, as both companies rely heavily on the success of Windows Phone to stay relevant in the smartphone market.
While Mint and Flipboard are great additions to the Windows Phone store, the popular ones are still missing, so these additions are just a small victory for Microsoft. Platform users are screaming for apps like Vine and Instagram along with many others, but things are moving forward very slowly, which does not bode well for Windows Phone 8.
Both Microsoft and Nokia needs to do more on growing Windows Phone 8 market share around the world. It is the only way the platform will attract developers who would be more than willing to invest in a platform with a solid user-base.
We hope to hear some good news so far as apps are concerned at the Nokia-held event come July 11.
