Flipboard for Windows Phone finally available, but requires 1GB of RAM (VIDEO)
Alexandra BurlacuThe popular Flipboard app has finally become available for devices running Microsoft's Windows Phone mobile operating system, provided that they have at least 1GB of RAM.
Flipboard has enjoyed great success so far on Apple's iOS and Google's Android mobile platforms, but Windows Phone users have not been able to use the app until now.
The popular app first hit Windows Phone when the new Microsoft Lumia 830 launched, as Flipboard comes pre-loaded on that handset. As of now, however, the app is available for other Windows Phone devices as well.
In term of compatibility, Flipboard will work on any device with at least 1GB of RAM and Windows Phone 8.1 as the operating system, such as the HTC One M8 for Windows or the Nokia Lumia 920. Moreover, Flipboard touts that its app is specifically tailored just for Windows Phone 8.1 users.
"Windows Phone fans can get excited about the Lumia 820 rolling out around the world - and the Flipboard team is ready to celebrate too," the company announced in a blog post on Thursday, Oct. 2. "Flipboard is pre-loaded on Lumia 830 phone and is available on all Windows Phones with at least 1 GB of RAM, such as the Lumia 920 and HTC One M8. Like our release for Windows tablets and desktops, this newest edition of Flipboard is tailored just for Windows Phone 8.1 users."
"From its architecture to visual design, Flipboard for Windows Phone includes some great features," adds the announcement. "As CTO Eric Feng explains, 'We're re-imagining many of our designs and interactions so readers can get more of the content they care about more quickly.'"
With the latest Flipboard app for Windows Phone, cover stories are front and central, users can search and follow more sources, see everything that they're following, as well as share to other Windows Phone apps.
Flipboard for Windows phone is now available as a free download from the Windows Phone Store. As previously mentioned, the app will currently work only on Windows Phone devices with at least 1GB of RAM, but the company promised to keep working with Microsoft and optimize Flipboard for lower-memory Windows Phones as well.
