Recent rumors indicated that that Moto X will make its debut on July 11, but Motorola claims to have no press event scheduled for that date.
The Moto X smartphone is one of the most highly-anticipated handsets of this year, as it would be Motorola's first smartphone since Google bought the company. Various rumors made rounds so far, especially after Motorola confirmed that the device is real. One of the most persistent rumors regarding the smartphone launch was just put to rest.
The Moto X is very real and it's coming soon, as Motorola itself teases on a sign-up page for the upcoming smartphone. The Moto X is not, however, making its debut at the rumored July 11 press event, because that event simply doesn't exist.
As it turns out, Motorola's Guy Kawasaki is actually having a personal, private gathering with friends on that date and "no products will be revealed or launched," Android Community reports. That purported launch date was never official to begin with, it was just a rumor that proved to be false.
It all started when Motorola launched a teaser page last week, confirming the smartphone. Shortly after, the company launched the actual product page, with the aforementioned sign-up option to receive more information about the smartphone as it gets closer to launch. An ad, meanwhile, teased the Moto X and showed two people - a man and a woman - jumping in a lake. The man's body formed an X as he jumped, while the woman's body looked like an I. Take X and I together and you get XI, i.e. the Roman numeral for 11.
While it was far from a confirmation, this hint was enough to fuel more rumors about a July 11 press event dedicated to the Moto X. When popular tech blogger Leo Laporte later confirmed a private event for "50 or so press members" on precisely that date, the rumor mill was nearly certain that Moto X will make its debut on July 11.
As always with rumors, however, there's the risk of inaccurate information and false hope, which is exactly the case here. Rumors always intensify ahead of a big launch, but nothing's for certain until it becomes official. With a product page up and running already, Motorola should announce more details about the Moto X soon enough. Until then, take things with a grain of salt.
