The water-resistant Sony Xperia Z smartphone is set to hit Canada later this month as a Bell Mobility exclusive, Sony announced.
Bell apparently snagged the exclusive rights to sell the new Sony flagship in Canada and it will offer the smartphone in black, white, and purple color options.
"With Xperia Z, we are thrilled to bring a breakthrough smartphone to Bell in Canada," Tim Hernquist, Sony Mobile Communications' Vice President of Marketing for North America, said in the press release. "The Xperia Z brings over a half a century of Sony innovation to a superphone for an experience that truly stands out."
"With its amazing durability, Xperia Z raises the bar for superphones and Bell is proud to be the exclusive Canadian carrier of this innovative and much antivipated mobile device," added Adel Bazerghi, Senior Vice President of Products at Bell Mobility. "Combined with the largest LTE network and Bell's Mobile TV, which includes more than 30 news, entertainment and sports channels, Bell and Sony are making the mobile experience even better."
The Sony Xperia Z is one of the few high-end smartphones that are dust- and water-resistant, thus promising extra durability. The handset sports a 5-inch Full HD (1080p) Reality Display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2.2-megapixel front-facing shooter and a 2,330 mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone supports LTE and HSPA, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. It packs 16GB of internal storage and a micro SD card slot for additional memory, all running on Android Jelly Bean.
Neither Sony nor Bell provided an exact launch date for the Sony Xperia Z in Canada, but they did mention that the smartphone would land in the country "later this month." That means that Canadians will be able to get the new flagship in a couple of weeks. There's also no mention of pricing yet, but Bell allows interested buyers to pre-register to receive further details on the upcoming Sony Xperia Z. As a bonus, the carrier also offers five Xperia Z smartphones as prizes for pre-registration.
