A new Samsung-made Google Nexus 10 tablet will reportedly make its debut soon, joining the new-generation ASUS-made Nexus 7.
Google just took the wraps off its new Nexus 7 tablet made by ASUS, unveiling the slate along with the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and other goodies at a San Francisco press event. As the second-generation Nexus 7 is now out of the bag, attention turns to the next Nexus 10, which is apparently ready to debut soon.
At the launch of the new Nexus, Google's Android chief Sundar Pichai reportedly told the Wall Street Journal's (WSJ) Emir Efrati to expect a new 10-inch, Samsung-built Nexus tablet "in the near future," according to this tweet.
Google's Nexus devices, be they smartphones or tablets, are designed to boast the very latest versions of Android as soon as Google releases them. These devices are Google branded, but other manufacturers build them. The first- and the second-generation Nexus 7 tablets were built by ASUS, the Nexus 4 smartphone was made by LG and the larger Nexus 10 slate was Samsung's work. New generations of the Nexus smartphone and the Nexus 10 are expected to launch soon, with the same manufacturing partners, i.e. LG and Samsung, respectively.
The new Nexus 7 sports some notable improvements over its predecessors and the next Nexus smartphone and 10-inch tablet are expected to do the same. Efrati didn't reveal any details regarding the purported new Nexus 10, but Google's previous launch schedules give a few hints into what to expect.
Back in 2012, Google launched its first Nexus 7. Later in the fall, the company unleashed a 10-inch Nexus tablet and an LG-made smartphone.
So far, Google has fallen in line with its previous launch schedules. The first Nexus 7 launched last July with Android 4.1 and the new Nexus 7 made its debut this July with Android 4.3 on board. The first Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 then made their debut with a new Android 4.2 Jelly Bean version, which indicates that the new Nexus 10 tablet and Nexus smartphone will launch with the OS successor to the Android 4.3 - presumably Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
Google did not officially confirm a new Nexus smartphone or Nexus 10 tablet, but it shouldn't be long until the company unveils the rest of its next-generation lineup.
